As the day draws to a close, another Apple event has come and gone. I pine for the days when these events made me excited like a child, hearing of all these new gadgets that dazzled us. The original iPhone, the iPad, and even the second gen Apple TV had me in such a whirlwind, these Apple events basically took over my whole day. I couldn't wait to see what great game changer was in store. This year, it was a mere formality. I watch and I listen... but the truth is: I don't even use any of these devices anymore.
Today Apple announced another iPhone. It looks nice, it looks the part. I'm sure it's a quality piece of hardware, but I couldn't help but see complacency. The new iPhone is faster...again. It has new chips or tech they attach names to as marketing tools. You know the drill: Retina = hi res. Taptic Engine = haptic feedback. They like to name stuff. Cool, I get it. There are some new features like being water resistant and they have some wireless earbuds. But those have both been done. Samsung beat them to the punch long ago on both those fronts. Even the dual camera isn't new, but I'm sure Apple will do it well.
Then there's the Apple Watch 2. It now has GPS and a chip...they also named, but it's really just an incremental update that every other competitor has already done. Google Wear, Samsung Gear, FitBit, and Microsoft. All of them, they all have these features already. But if you're a believer, Apple will do it....better. It does spit out water tho! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm sure if you're a fan or not, these updates are, at minimum, welcomed. It is better than the previous models after all. And really, most people don't really care about the details, they just want to know if it's better so they can plop down the cash on the upgrade. I know the feeling; I bought into the iPhone hysteria when the original released, upgrading every two years, on schedule, when my contract was eligible for upgrades. These days I just go to Amazon and buy a phone outright for a quarter of the cost. But no phone blows me away like the original iPhone did. I hope that happens again. Maybe next year.
Oh yeah, one more thing... (biggest damn part)
MARIO ON iOS!!!
