Cloud Imperium Games showed off their latest and greatest version of Star Citizen at Gamecom this week, showing off their impressive tech. During the live unscripted demo, two players play via co-op and land on a nearby planet. The rendering techniques display a beautiful world, more realistic then what is being offered up by Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky. It all just looks very slick, including some nifty UI design.
Upon landing, one player stays in the ship while the other walks freely on the planet's terrain. The planet is one of many in Star Citizen that will utilize a combination of procedural generation and the finesse of an artist's touch. The company will be fleshing out planets by hand by way of bases and civilizations.
Later in the demo, one of the players enters a mining compound that is rich with detail and culture. The player views out a window to see their buddy hovering outside the window in their ship in real-time.
Check out the embedded video for the play-through. The 3.0 release is allegedly releasing this October. The space sim genre is really gettin' kinda crazy.
