Last night, Jimmy Fallon got his excited hands on the Nintendo Switch and Super Mario Run.
Super Mario Run looks the part and Fallon was certainly exploding in joy, but the game itself looks rather simple ...er mobile-esque. In fact, at our development company here, we made a very similar prototype last year based on our Arcade Jumper title (of course Arcade Jumper is heavily inspired by Super Mario in the first place). We ultimately decided to abandon the idea due to the fickle and volitile mobile market.
But hey, Mario is Mario and will make serious bank in the first minute it's out. I'm mildly excited to try Super Mario Run, but I know it won't be something I'll play for long.
Then there's the Switch.
It all plays as expected, which is a good thing, although I was really hoping they'd show off some touch input. They played a small sample of Zelda Breath of the Wild. You can tell it was heavily scripted; especially when Fallon said "lemme play!" and Reggie just straight up ignored him until his bit was done.
